The marshal is the member of the council in charge of the military. When the ruler will not or cannot command armies, the marshal will do it. The position of marshal is available to those vassals and courtiers who are male, over 16 years old, not a prisoner, and not incapable.

Marshals are given a small monthly salary and a monthly prestige bonus, and upon appointment the marshal will gain a +15 opinion boost towards his liege. Characters with a high martial stat are preferred for this position. Marshals can be tasked to do three things: suppress revolts, train troops, and research military tech.

Actions[]

Suppress Revolts - the marshal is sent to a particular county to suppress revolts there. The chance of a revolt will decrease while the marshal is there by a percentage equivalent to the marshal's martial stat, The chance of imprisoning a character residing in that county is raised by the same amount.

Train Troops - the marshal is sent to a particular county to train the troops there. While the marshal is in that county, the levy size and levy reinforcement rate will be increased, with a higher martial stat yielding a greater increase. There is however a small chance of the local noble interfering in the training, and his opinion of the marshal's liege will be decreased.

Research Military Tech - the marshal is sent to a particular county to research military tech there. While the marshal is in that county, the military technology spread rate will be increased, with a higher martial stat yielding a greater increase. There is however a small chance the marshal will be wounded or maimed in a training drill accident, or that military secrets will be revealed, further increasing the military technology spread rate.

Variants[]

The marshal of a Byzantine ruler is instead known as a Strategos.
