A count is a ruler of the second tier. Counts are the lowest ranked playable rulers. Counts rule over one or more counties, each composed of one or more baronies. Counts are almost always vassals of powerful dukes or kings.
Title variants[]
Most male rulers of count-rank are known as counts, and most female rulers of count-rank are known as countesses. There are, however, several cultural/religious variants which are summarised in the table below:

Note: religous title variants 'trump' cultural ones. For example, a ruler of count-rank with Scottish culture and Norse Pagan religion will be known as a Chief Similarly, republican rulers of count-rank are known by different titles. These take precedence over cultural variants.
